Collection: HÅG Capisco Puls

The HÅG Capisco Puls is the lighter, more colourful member of the Capisco family: the same saddle seat by Peter Opsvik that lets you sit low, perch high or work almost standing, built around a slim shell in nine colours. The HAG Capisco Puls comes in four models: two backless stools and two chairs with a backrest. Compare them below, or configure yours in fabric, colour, frame and gas lift.

The decision
The four HAG Capisco Puls models compared
Stool or chair decides most of it. The 8010 and 8020 have HÅG inBalance®, the free, balanced tilt that follows your movements, plus tilt tension, a tilt lock, seat depth and backrest height adjustment. The 8001 and 8002 stools adjust in height only.

8001 or 8002?
Both are backless saddle stools at 7 kg with the 265 mm gas lift as standard. The 8001 has a slim upholstered comfort pad set into the seat: firm, light and easy to keep clean. The 8002 adds a full, removable seat cushion for noticeably softer sitting during longer sessions.
Neither can be converted into a chair later: the seat of the stools is different, so a backrest cannot be fitted.
8010 or 8020?
Both have the backrest, which you can also use as an arm or chest rest when you sit sideways or turned around, plus HÅG inBalance®, tilt tension and seat depth adjustment. The 8010 has the comfort pad; the 8020 has the full removable cushion. Most people who sit for several hours a day choose the 8020.
Who it suits
Made for moving, wherever you work
Sit-stand and standing desks
With the 265 mm lift the seat rises to about 80 cm, so you can perch at a standing desk without standing all day. The stools are the lightest way to do it.
Home offices and shared desks
Light, easy to move and available in nine shell colours, the Puls fits a home office or a hot desk where several people sit at different heights.
Schools, studios and labs
Durable plastic shell, wipe-clean PUxx or antistatic options, and an 8020 set up for teenagers. The 8010 is also available as a cleanroom version (ISO 14644 class 4–5) on request.

Seat height
Which gas lift do you need?
The gas lift sets the seat height range. The stools come with the 265 mm lift as standard and the chairs with 200 mm; every other lift is available too. The saddle seat works best a little higher than an ordinary chair, with your thighs sloping down and your hips open.
| Gas lift | 8020 | 8010 | 8002 | 8001 | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 150 mm | 40–53.5 cm | 39–52.5 cm | 37.5–51.5 cm | 36.5–50 cm | Low tables, users under about 165 cm |

The HÅG FootRing fits the 200 and 265 mm lifts only, not the 150 mm. With the 265 mm lift at a high fixed desk, we recommend adding it. More detail in our gas lift guide.

The Capisco family
HAG Capisco Puls vs the classic HÅG Capisco
The classic HÅG Capisco (1984) and the Capisco Puls (2010) share Peter Opsvik's saddle seat and the same freedom to move. The Puls 8010 and 8020 even have the same adjustments as the Capisco 8106. The difference is the build: the Puls uses a slim plastic shell with upholstery only where you sit, the classic Capisco is fully upholstered.

Choose the Puls if you want the saddle seat in a lighter, colourful and lower-priced chair, for a home office, a shared desk or a standing desk. Choose the classic Capisco for a fully upholstered back or a headrest as standard (8107). If you sit for long hours every day, choose the 8106. Accessories
Accessories for the HAG Capisco Puls
When you sit high on a saddle seat, your feet need somewhere to rest. These two accessories fit every Capisco Puls.

Environment
Light on material, heavy on recycled content
In 2021 Flokk released 200 numbered Capisco Puls chairs made from old snow-plough markers collected along Norway's roads. The material proved itself, and since 2023 the Brown shell has been a permanent colour: no virgin plastic, and a story you can see in every batch. Figures from Flokk's environmental product declaration.
Tested and certified
Tested for users up to 110 kg (EN 1335). Suitable for work surfaces of 72 cm and higher.

The designer
Peter Opsvik
Norwegian designer Peter Opsvik created the HÅG Capisco in 1984, inspired by the way riders sit in the saddle: open hips, an upright back and constant small movements. In 2010 he and the HÅG design team reduced the idea to its essentials. The result, the Capisco Puls, won a Red Dot product design award in 2011. It is made by Flokk, the Norwegian company behind HÅG.
Also by Opsvik, and also available here: the HÅG Capisco and the HÅG Creed.
10-year warranty
Every Capisco Puls comes with a 10-year warranty for normal use of up to 9 hours a day (5 years on ESD and cleanroom versions). Warranty terms
Questions
HAG Capisco Puls: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the HAG Capisco and the Capisco Puls?
Both use Peter Opsvik's saddle seat and the same base and gas lifts. The classic Capisco is fully upholstered; the Capisco Puls has a slim plastic shell with a comfort pad or cushion on the seat only. That makes the Puls lighter (11.1 kg for the chairs against 13 to 14.5 kg) and roughly half the price of a Capisco 8106.
What is the difference between the Capisco Puls 8010 and 8020?
Both are chairs with a backrest and the same adjustments. The 8010 has a comfort pad set into the seat; the 8020 has a full, removable seat cushion that is softer for longer sitting.
What is the difference between the Capisco Puls 8001 and 8002?
Both are backless stools that adjust in height only. The 8001 has a comfort pad in the seat; the 8002 has a full removable cushion.
Can I add a backrest to the Capisco Puls 8001 or 8002 later?
No. The stools have a different seat, so a backrest cannot be fitted. If you might want a backrest, choose the 8010 or 8020 from the start.
Can I add a headrest or armrests to the Capisco Puls?
A headrest, yes: the HÅG Capisco headrest fits the 8010 and 8020 and is easy to mount. It is upholstered, so it stands out against the plastic back (see photos). Armrests are not available; the backrest is shaped to support your arms or chest when you sit sideways or turned around. For a fully upholstered chair with a headrest, choose the HÅG Capisco 8107.
Which gas lift should I choose?
The 200 mm lift suits standard desks from 72 cm, the 265 mm lift suits standing desks and counters, and the 150 mm lift suits low tables or users under about 165 cm. See the seat-height table above for each model.
What is the maximum user weight?
The Capisco Puls is tested to EN 1335 for users up to 110 kg.
How much does the Capisco Puls weigh?
The 8001 and 8002 stools weigh 7.0 kg; the 8010 and 8020 chairs weigh 11.1 kg.
Is the Capisco Puls made from recycled plastic?
Yes. The 8010 contains 56.8% recycled material with a black or brown shell, and the Brown shell is made entirely from recycled Norwegian snow-plough markers. The chair is 99% recyclable.
Is the Capisco Puls suitable for a standing desk?
Yes. With the 265 mm gas lift the seat rises to 77 to 80 cm depending on the model, so you can perch at standing height. Add the HÅG FootRing for a place to rest your feet.
What warranty does the Capisco Puls have?
10 years for normal use of up to 9 hours a day; 5 years on ESD and cleanroom versions.
