The HAG Capisco is not an ordinary office chair. Peter Opsvik designed it in 1984 around the way a rider sits in the saddle: open hips, an upright back and constant small movements, whether you sit low, perch high or work almost standing. The range

Four models: three chairs, one stool

Every HÅG Capisco shares the Ø73 cm aluminium base with curved foot rests, the same gas lifts and the same fully upholstered, removable covers. They differ in three ways: saddle or flat seat, backrest or none, and headrest or none.

8106 or 8107?

The only difference is the headrest. The 8107 adds one that adjusts in height and depth, which helps if you lean back to read, think or take calls. If you mostly sit forward or perched at a high desk, the 8106 is all you need, and a headrest can still be fitted later.

8106 or 8126?

The seat. The saddle of the 8106 opens the hip angle and makes it easy to sit sideways or turned around. The flat seat of the 8126 feels more like a conventional chair, with the same backrest and tilt. Not sure? Most people choose the saddle.

A chair for every working height

Sit-stand and standing desks

With the 265 mm lift the seat rises to about 80 cm, so you can perch at a standing desk instead of standing all day. The 8105 stool comes with that lift as standard.

Studios, drawing tables and labs

Architects, designers and lab technicians use the Capisco at high worktops, where an ordinary office chair is too low and a bar stool gives no support.

Meetings and shared desks

The T-shaped backrest doubles as an arm or chest rest when you sit sideways or turned around, which makes the Capisco easy to share and natural to talk from.

Seat height

Which gas lift do you need?

The gas lift sets the seat height range. The chairs come with the 200 mm lift as standard and the 8105 stool with 265 mm; every other lift is available too. The saddle seat works best a little higher than an ordinary chair, with your thighs sloping down and your hips open.

The HÅG FootRing fits the 200 and 265 mm lifts only, not the 150 mm. With the 265 mm lift we recommend glides instead of castors, and in most cases a FootRing. More detail in our gas lift guide and our guide to choosing castors.

The Capisco is built in Røros, Norway, where the HÅG brand has been at home for more than 60 years. Much of the chair is made from recycled plastic, it comes apart without special tools, and every cover can be replaced, so a Capisco can be re-covered and repaired for decades instead of thrown away. The designer

Peter Opsvik

Norwegian designer Peter Opsvik created the HÅG Capisco in 1984 to redefine sitting at work. Instead of holding you in one correct posture, it invites you to change position all day: low, high, forwards, sideways or turned around. Four decades later it is one of the most recognisable office chairs in Europe, still made by Flokk, the Norwegian company behind HÅG.

HAG Capisco: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the HAG Capisco models?

All four share the same base, gas lifts and adjustable backrest system. The 8106 is the classic saddle chair. The 8107 is the 8106 with a headrest. The 8126 is the 8106 with a flat seat instead of the saddle. The 8105 is a backless saddle stool that adjusts in height only.

What is the difference between the Capisco 8106 and 8107?

Only the headrest. The 8107 adds a headrest that adjusts in height and depth; seat, backrest, mechanism and fabrics are the same as on the 8106. It weighs 14.5 kg against 13 kg.

What is the difference between the Capisco 8106 and 8126?

The seat. The 8106 has the saddle seat; the 8126 has a flat seat. Backrest, HÅG inBalance® tilt, seat depth adjustment and gas lifts are the same.

Can I add a backrest or headrest later?

A backrest cannot be added to the 8105 stool. A headrest can be fitted to an 8106 or 8126 afterwards: the complete HÅG Capisco headrest is sold separately as a spare part.

What is the difference between the HAG Capisco and the Capisco Puls?

Both use Peter Opsvik's saddle seat, the same base and the same gas lifts. The classic Capisco is fully upholstered, seat and back; the Capisco Puls has a plastic shell with a pad or cushion on the seat only. The Puls is lighter (11.1 kg for the chairs against 13 to 14.5 kg) and costs roughly half as much as an 8106.

Which gas lift should I choose?

The 200 mm lift suits standard desks from 72 cm and most people between about 165 and 185 cm. The 265 mm lift suits standing desks, counters, fixed desks above 90 cm and taller users. The 150 mm lift suits low tables and users under about 165 cm. See the seat-height table above for each model.

Do I need a FootRing?

Only if your feet do not rest comfortably on the floor, for example at a high fixed desk. The HÅG FootRing fits the 200 and 265 mm lifts, not the 150 mm. With the 265 mm lift we recommend it in most cases.

Which castors should I choose?

Castors for hard floors on wood, tile or laminate; castors for soft floors on carpet; universal castors if you move between the two. Glides are recommended with the 265 mm lift.

What is the maximum user weight?

The HÅG Capisco is tested to EN 1335 and ANSI/BIFMA for users up to 110 kg.

How much does a HAG Capisco weigh?

The 8105 stool weighs 7.5 kg, the 8106 13 kg, the 8126 13.5 kg and the 8107 14.5 kg.

Are the covers removable?

Yes. The seat, backrest and headrest covers can be removed and replaced, and new covers are available in every fabric, so a worn or stained chair can be re-covered instead of replaced.

What warranty does the HAG Capisco have?

10 years for normal use of up to 9 hours a day; 5 years on ESD versions.
